CONGRATS TO AOKI & DIM MAK ON 20 TITE YEARS

Just like I did w/ my previous #TBT post, I'm gonna start jumping on THE WELL LA blog from time to time to drop some knowledge + photos + vids.  Enjoy these brain farts from a fun day/night/whatever.  Thanks for letting me hijack the blog again buds!

So, I rolled down to Bolca Chica State Beach in the OC to visit the homie, Steve Aoki to celebrate the 20 Year Dim Mak Anniversary on November 19th, 2016...

So... I'm writing this post b/c I got a couple things to say about that Cake throwing DJ that takes off his shirt and he jumps around to really loud music to crowds of kids that ride in rafts during his sets that embody the words, "pomp & circumstance."  (sorry for the big phrase but go look it up kiddies lol)...

...he's one of the dudes that I gotta show a lot of respect to b/c he helped put me on (just like he did to a lot of you kids that listen to electronic music right now that's not over the age of 35 years old).  If it wasn't for those parties at Dim Mak Tuesdays at Cinespace, I wouldn't have really found myself as a roaming cultural historian with the keys to the kingdom.  I met so many tite people during those early party days thanks a lot to Mr. Aoki himself and for him giving me a chance by letting me always just roam and film random moments b/c I was just starting to explore the world of videography and shit.  I just jumped onto the Youtubes to find a quick video as a reminder of some of those crazy days at Steve's party, Dim Mak Tuesdays at Cinespace and I found this...

This was when So-Me was in town filming Kanye's video for "The Good Life" and they squashed their VMAs beef back on some summer night in 2007 on Hollywood.  Anyways, this is just one of a million moments that Steve let me lurk at and now I have a crazy archive of some crazy shit... so b/c of this, I pay tribute to the Immortal Asian and drove my ass to Bolca Chica State Beach to get my Dim Mak on one last time b/c I was gonna be missing the secret party on the 29th (whoops!) for the LA version of the Dim Mak 20th Year Anniversary party.  I even texted Jacob for the deets and everything the day before b/c I was like, I sorta gotta be there ;)  So here we go...

I had to jack Ceasar's shot for a second lol...

Once I passed the traffic on the 5 South... I finally got to the makeshift stage along the beach and was ready to get my celebrAZN on with the homies from the Dim Mak crew after knowing them for probably about 9 years by now... damn, has it been that long?  Anyhow, let's goooo with the shooowwww...

I was sad that I overslept from being sick the week before and missed Migos perform, but I caught them at Complex Con a couple weeks back so I wasn't sore... I was definitely glad that I was there to catch the homie, Autoerotique, play his tunes.  Known this dude for a minute now via the Dim Mak family tree, plus he likes my photos of Mama Han and #Halmonee on my insta, so I had to grab some vids of the low key legend ;)

Then caught a little bit of these dudes named DVBBS that also rep for Dim Mak, so I pressed record for a sec.

Then after a quick fake tattoo session w/ Tara Reid, Steve came out to his loyal minions from Orange County and went into Steve Aoki 2016... w/ all the fun things that a young raver would love to catch... I mean, these kids LOVE the dude!

All those kids went all Italian soccer chant up in this piece...

Then, Steve took it back to his Orange County roots and played the hometown hero vibes w/ some Blink 182 waves for the surfer bros.  This is like their anthem.

It's been so long since I've been to a Steve show that I was having a blast watching all this shit go on.  It's sort of like putting on an Oculus Rift and playing a simulation in TURNUP.

Then, Steve gathered all the dudes that have been at the label since day one, like 20 years of support, and took a really rad group shot from the legendary Caesar Sebastian!  I tried to sneak into that photo haha ;)  In that same vein, here is a little slideshow thingie of some homies and some memories from that nite.

After that nice nostalgia bomb, I naively thought the party was over... but then I forgot that it was time for Dessert!  AKA, CAKE FACE TIME!

I can't believe after knowing Steve for all these years, it feels like this was my first ever live caking observation up-close.  It was sorta amazing... and I loved every minute of it :))))))

To end the post, here's a slideshow of kids beaming with pride after being caked.  I'm telling you, what Steve has created for himself is sort of amazing b/c he did himself and his way.  Very AZN Frank Sinatra of him...

So yeah... this was just one night in my history w/ the famed Steve Aoki, and I gotta say, I'm still having fun hanging with this dude b/c he keeps it real, in his own, unique way.

Til next time...
