FINALLY SAW JUSTICE IN PARIS + JE T'AIME THIS PLACE #TRIPPIN

Usually when I jump on this blog, I usually write about a rad #TBT moment of epicness w/ the The Well LA fam or covering an amazing event in LA b/c I'm in the hood.   Well, this post is gonna be different... basically I'm just gonna share with you my experience in a far away land and why I had a rad time.  I'm just glad I can write it out somewhere and share what happened b/c it was sorta nuts. Sorta like what I did when I randomly went to Japan in September...

So, yeah, here are some more #TRIPPIN vibes from my recent Paris trip during Nov. 27th - Dec. 9th, 2016...

So yeah, after GOING IN on my first night in Paris with the Bromance Records boys for their 5 year anniversary...  I decided to stay for 2 weeks to just get a more everyday Paris vibe instead of feeling like a tourist... and little moments like catching Justice play a set in a club that's under the Pont Alexandre III on a cold ass Thursday night in Paris was just dope... but yeah, I'll get to the Justice stuff after I get through the overall titeness of being in Paris and escaping the states for a bit...

First off, wanted to give a shoutout to MYD from Club Cheval for letting me crash at his crib for almost a week and a half and Louisahhh!!! for letting me watch her awesome flat in Paris while she was making RAAR beats w/ Maelstrom in Nantes ;)  The #CREWLOVE is still strong all over the world and Paris was definitely starting to feel like home... So, yeah let's get on with my random trip to Paris...

S/O to IRFANE and giving me a ride on his scooter...

SO, yeah after sleeping til 5pm the day after the #BMC5 party... I was ready to tackle the next 12 days of my Paris trip and I got a call from none other than Irfane from Breakbot & Irfane  to join me for lunch on a cold ass day in Paris.  One ride on the back of his scooter later, we went to an awesome meal at this restaurant called TANNAT where I probably had the best blood sausage + soup I've ever had.  The food is exquisite and Simon from the restaurant definitely showed me a great time.  Definitely coming back for seconds when I roll back to Paris...T

Once I got the hang of being in Paris and wandering through the city w/o a chaperone, I started venturing to this big ass venue near the 10th/19th called Le Zenith that seemed to be THE spot to catch the BIG SHOWS when you were in Paris.  S/O to Canblaster and Mai Lan for hooking it up for this random M83 show in Paris and another S/O to Caroline who got me on the list for this random SCHOOLBOY Q show in Paris.  I mean, I got to flash the Westside and smoke blunts w/ strangers while singing along to some LA shit in Paris... yeah it was fuckin tite during that moment... After these shows, I just took the easy as fuck Metro back to the crib and then I felt more and more like a Parisian...

S/O to the amazing and talented FAFI + 1 ;)

Just like how LA is always poppin, Paris has that vibe too, I would constantly wander into the neighborhood homies' shop, Club 75, and just run into random fools and friends, here in little ass Paris :)  Like even one day, ATRAK rolled through to do a 30-minute scratch set at Club 75 while simultaneously releasing his new IN THE LOOP: A DECADE OF REMIXES thing he just did... so yeah, here's but another tite moment from a random week in Pari...

Oh yeah, then I turned around and realized I was definitely not in DTLA...

PS: also wandered into Colette for a second to see the new NO BULLSHIT shirts available now!

So, yeah, another day, another tite thing to do in the CITY OF LIGHTS... To be perfectly honest, I was starting to wake up early each day and meet the homies and go eat rad lunches, so it was really fucking dope to be in a walkable city and see tight shit while just doing normal daytime shit.  It really got me loving this walkable city life... did I already mention that?   Anyhow, by the end of my first week in Paris, I started to get psyched to catch the CLUB CHEVAL ALL NIGHT LONG set at NUITS FAUVES which meant that I was gonna go to a party that goes from 12am until 6am in a club that looks like a cage for prisoners right on the edge of the River Seine.  It combined two of my favorite things, Touristy shit + great music.  Here are a couple highlights...

It was so fucking awesome to be in France listening to the hometown heroes (via Lille) destroy in a live cage match for 6 hrs in Wintery Paris.  So awesome and so special.  I was definitely feeling some type of way.  I was also so drnk at a certain point that I was no longer wearing my combination of hoodie + jacket + heat tech.  I was priveleged to an amazing MYD B2B CANBLASTER B2B PANTEROS666 B2B SAM TIBA SET IN PARIS WHILE I WAS AT MY DRUNKEST.  TITE AF.

Honestly, this might have been my favorite part, when Myd and Sam played the French rap hits to the crowd that could honestly understand them.  My heart is partial to SCH - Champs Elysee b/c the familia, DJ Kore and Myd helped make it and it just got me some type of way...

Since there were too many photos from just that night, I made a lil slideshow above so you could relive the tight cage matches and such from the night ;)  Honestly, it was super tight to see the homies kill it... I even caught Ikaz Boi, Myth Syzer, and 8TM upstairs so it was real tight to see the #BMC homies assemble on a Friday night in Paris...

Wandered into a Q&A in French w/ Justice and Pedro at the Rough Trade Popup.  I don't speak French.

So... another day, another fun thing to do in Paris w/ the homies.  I think it was a Sunday and I read some post on Pedro's instagram saying that there was gonna be some Ed Banger & Rough Trade Pop-Up thing happening at Pont Ephemere (walking distance!) I was a bit confused during the Q&A portion (I asked them what the Wi-Fi code was, no joke!) and then I waited til they signed their new albums and such...

GAS + XAV = SIGNING STUFF

GAS + XAV = SIGNING STUFF

But yeah, after they signed stuff, I realized that Pedro and Cassius were gonna stick around and do a lil Sunday funday DJ set... and I thought Paris shut down on Sundays completely... ;)  I got to the signing thing at like 5pm, left the thing at like 11pm... TITE!

So yeah, another tite, random night in Paris and another cold ass walk back to the Metro at the end of the night... RIP to my Supreme x North Face right glove, lost in the cold Paris streets that night :(

A couple days after that Rough Trade thingie, I finally rolled by the Ed Banger offices to pick up some goodies and just hang out and lurk a bit (highlighted on my instagram that day)... I made a little slideshow above of some cool shots of some French musical trinketry of past memories :)))))  Sort of like a museum of the late 2000s of what was cool... before I hopped on a metro the next day to the Palais De Tokyo to check out the Bernard Buffet retrospective... Here is a lil slideshow of that as well b/c it was also a highlight of my trip...

Above is just a taste of the giant retrospective of the French Expressionist painter, Bernard Buffet.  It ranged from his youth to his death and covered all his different styles as he tried to find himself.  He even painted paintings about Death before he committed suicide in the end. SOOOOOOOOO FRENNNNCCHHHHHH.

Here's a shot of Republique jus b/c.  Such a pretty Metro station...

OK... at this point, I had been in Paris for almost 2 full weeks and I was almost done being as French as I could be... I just needed one last thing to make this trip complete, and I totally got what I wanted on a fateful Thursday night at Faust, overlooking the Seine river right smack in the middle of Paris.  After 9 years of following these dudes and running into these dudes all over the world, I finally caught a Justice set in Paris.  The motherland.  For the crowd of the diehards.  This was gonna be epic.

I mean, they played the NEW HITS OFF OF THE BRAND NEW ALBUM!!!! #WOMAN #WOMAN #WOMAN

THEY FUCKIN PLAYED THE ELECTRO CLASH SHIT THAT WE ALL DANCED TO IN THE MID 2000s... LIKE THE GOLD STANDARD HITS FROM THE DAY.  I MEAN DAMN DUDES.

At one point, Justice did the unthinkable and actually played my favorite song from their new album, CHORUS, and mixed it into that DFA 1979 shit that I used to dance to when I had a fauxhawk in 2007... I mean, I was just feeling this shit on some other level.  Plus I had the camera which allowed me to record and share for all y'all that were there.  Even though I was there, I still felt the FOMO.

And then with one final playing of Randy, the French lords were done.  They disappeared into the Parisian night and just left me feeling a sense of completion from this recent Paris trip and I just left the venue a little deaf but wholly happy.  Thanks again for not letting me down buds.

Lamborghini Merci.

Lamborghini Merci.

Even though I took a lot of pics and videos and shit, I still don't think you got the full extent of how amazing this trip was.  I realized during this trip that I had now gone back-and-forth to Paris for the last 10 years and that now I was finally unapologetically a Parisian.  I walked the walk, I ate the food, but I still needed to talk the talk.  2 outta 3 ain't bad and Paris is definitely my second home.  Thanks for reading this b/c I needed to just get these thoughts out before they just faded into another unsaid memory.

I'm gonna go sleep now b/c Jet Lag sucks.
