#TBT - WHEN DAVE, DILLON, AND MUNCHI BROUGHT MOOMBAHTON TO US

OK, here it goes... so, my name is GLENJAMN aka "That one stoned Korean dude with the glasses that seems to be at a grip of music event things," or preferably, a "Cultural Historian."  Basically what that means is that I have LIVED through a lot of cool shit in LA through the past 8+ years and have documented most of those tite moments and made some rad friends along the journey.  Anyhow, I linked up with the fam at THE WELL LA to see if they were down with me hopping on their site from time to time and sharing some of those vibey moments of when we kicked it and share some dope shit I caught on the cameras while I was stoned.  So, lemme go and share a rad moment with y'all via photos and/or videos (b/c God gave me two hands for two cameras)...

I think it was the night of January 29th, 2011...

BOOM.  Hit you with that video one-time.  So... just to give u a taste of how it was like at most of these random presented by THE WELL LA back in the 2010-2011 years at the old cutty spot not far from The Shrine Auditorium, here's a mini walkthrough tour of the crazy shit that would go down from time to time when Jefferson would hit me up about these random parties.  Seriously, they were always random to me, but once I got there, it felt like home.

Some things to take note in the vid above... the DGAF kids + WEED + basically the moment when the MOOMBAHTON wave hit us kids in LA.  When I went to parties during that time, I would hear this music playing that made me think it was at first Latin Cumbia vibes, but it was something added on top that made the music more dance-relatable to us kids who had just gone in heavy during the Ed Banger golden years and needed a bit of that Electro kick to keep the LA yung Mexi kids shuffling and shit.  When I look back at this vid, I can still sorta feel that feeling of when new music hit this group of sweaty party kids in a random building in S. East LA while running into a bunch of homies that were killing it in their own ways w/in the vast nightlife playground of LA.

If you're not really into videos, then I also got a couple of photos too.  BAM.

Here's one of musical significance.  It's Munchi, talkin to Dillon while Dave Nada rocks out to himself?  Anyways, I think I met Dillon first (when he was interning for the legend way back in NYC, DJ Stretch Armstrong), then I met Dave through my homies Switch and Guru Singh around when Dave moved to LA I think, and then I met Munchi through those dudes.  Anyhow, I just wanted to take a photo of my three buds at the time... who knew they would become all big?

But yeah, the vibe in the above photo was sort of what made THE WELL LA so special to a random AZN dude w/ a camera trying to catch vibes like it was 2007.  I mean, I got to kick it with the next big things in the world of music while drinking ice cold Tecates without thinking anyone was cooler than the other.  The coolest thing there was the beer.  The rad memories from kicking it with buds before they got famous?  {flame emoji} FIRE {flame emoji}

Oh yeah!  Another cool thing about me writing on this blog is that I can do whatever I want ;)  Sooo... here's another tite vid I found from that night b/c it is also significant as fuck...

I think midway through this party, I found out that it was the other DJ playing's birthday... This skinny English dude with frizzy hair was playing some crazy shit on the decks... and lo and behold, it was Toddla T aka Big Poppa T aka Ganja T doin his ting on dem tyables.  Anyhow, I wished him a happy birthday, probably smoked a joint with him and then tried to continue getting lit in a dark warehouse backlit by burned out vintage TVs in a corner of LA not far from the hoodrats lurking at USC.

Like I said, skinny English dude w/ frizzy hair aka Toddla T

So, yeah, the rest of the night, from what I can remember, was a constant motion of bumping into shit while really dope music was playing.  Then it was trying to remember not to lose my cameras while rolling a joint with one hand in the dark.  Then it was walking through the maze of drunk beezies aka lil chicas aka girls dancing and testing the limits of their lit-ness on the dancefloor...

...Or running into buds that I knew way back then and am still privileged to call buds 5 years later.   So here is a shoutout to some buds that are still doing big thangs in the Westsiiiiiiiiiiiiiide.

Basically, this was just a test to re-catch a glimpse of how shit was just super fuckin tite back in the day.  I mean, I didn't really know anyone from THE WELL LA until I kept stumbling to their rad and random parties.  I lived in Echo Park at the time, so it was definitely a trip to go down near USC for a party and that trip better have been damn worth it.  Looking back, it seemed worth it ;)

This was fun.  Sorry for run-on-stream-of-consciousness-type-drawn-out sentences.  I was high when I wrote this.

Hope to do more of these TBT storytime picnics with you kids soon.  Hope you learned something. Or not.
