BODEGA JACK THREW A FIESTA THE OTHER DAY

Just like I did w/ my previous #TBT post, I'm gonna start jumping on THE WELL LA blog from time to time to drop some knowledge + photos + vids.  Enjoy these brain farts from a fun day/night/whatever.  Thanks for letting me hijack the blog again buds!

So, I went to the Bodega Jack x The Well LA party featuring a bunch of the Latin American homies on August 13, 2016...

So, the homies from The Well + Nylon Es + my unofficial official Mexican-American affairs manager, Anita Herrera, invited me to roll thru the store for an event they were throwing showcasing some cool bands and artists from South of the border... so I said SI.   It had been a minute since I had rolled through a party in that giant ass space behind the salon so I didn't really know what to expect... but I was down.

Right when i walked in, I noticed this dude I had never seen spitting some Spanglish bars over what seemed to be a Cumbia-breakbeat.  I asked my homies around me, "who is this dude?" and they replied "Jesse Baez" aka the Guatemalan Drake.   I went home and listened to him a bit more to get a sense of what I was missing from an apparently tite Guatemalan youth wave.

Oh yeah, another tight thing about Jesse, was that the dude DJing during that his set was a dude that I had been on emails with for quite some time, Cheeks, trying to get my ass to Mexico City and kick it w/ the Sicario and Tape crew buds aka the dudes that RUN THE SHIT IN MEXICO CITY.  Finally, we met, making the URL to IRL bridge complete.

Once I mingled for a bit with the homies (aka smoke a joint in a dark corner outside being all #SUS), I went back inside the warehouse and saw this group of 5 scruffy lookin-Emo-en-espanol kinda dudes setting up their gear and starting to jam out.  TBH, I had no clue who these dudes were either b/c I wasn't that hip to the Mexico City rock scene, so I was having one of those cool little moments of finding a new band and hearing them for the first time w/o any pre-tweet info or basically ANY info.  Whoever these dudes were, they came off soft, and then ended with some quality thrash vibes.  Not like Punk and metal vibes, but like rad, 2016 rock vibes with a little bit of synth and keys here and there and a lotta good drumming and some whaling out on guitars at the end.   These dudes were called Little Jesus.  They were tite.

I tried to film them with a steady arm while my toes were tapping, so it was a bit shaky but whatever.  This band reminded me of the days when I was little and used to cruise to Weezer shows and sing along.   Then I realized that I was still dancing at my current age, so I guess this was a bit more relatable now than the current Weezer.

Anyhow, like I said, this event was sorta new to me, but it was rad b/c I got to check out a lot of music that I had never heard from our distant cousins in the Sur.  I was down w/ all the homies I ran into and all the vibes that were dispensed.

Here are some photos of vibes:

See, there were vibes to be had...

So, yeah, that was random and fun and then I called it a night ;)

Til next time...
