Just like I did w/ some of my previous posts, I'm gonna drop some knowledge + photos + vids yet again. Enjoy these brain farts from a fun day/night/whatever. So, gather round the campfire b/c Grandpa Glen got another tale to tell...
So... let's dive into a rad memory of a rad night in LA (just like the other tite nights I write about on tha bloggg)... So, I got a call that night letting me know that the homies were gonna assemble at the Exchange LA spot in DTLA bc it was basically born and raised in the bowels of Spring St. about 3 years ago... So, I packed up the cameras and knew that I was gonna grab some magic celebrating 3 years of Night Bass magique ;)
OKAY, listen up everyone, this video moment right here... man, it was just fucking serendipity seeing the homie/legend, FROG aka Dances aka Titanium homie that I would always run into whenever I went to NYC over the years, who's had a rough last year surviving a car hitting him head on and getting the strength of his legs back... yadda yadda yadda he's the homie and we're all happy he's so much better than before... anyways, I got hit up by Chris Lake after this video trying to get it b/c it was a meaningful moment having Frog there with him playing "Operator" LIVE w/ Frog providing the LIVE vocals... I mean, this shit was fucking tight b/c it was a meaningful moment FOR THE CULTURE. Here you go...
Like I said, it was really important moment so much that I wanted to lift the words from Chris' Facebook just to show how tight this moment was... and this was the first thing I walked into!
This is the artist Dances With White Girls who wrote and performed the vocal for my track ‘Operator’ that’s been doing the rounds the past month. Dances sent me a load of vocals a few years prior after we’d met up at one of my shows in Webster Hall, New York. I slept on those vocals for a little while until in June 2016 I started the beat for operator, thought I needed a spoken vocal like Dances, so went into that folder, found the Operator acapella, changed some things around and added in my Wife Gita whispering ‘answer that call’. Operator had been born!
Of course, I messaged Dances to show him what I’d done when he told me he was hit by a drunk driver on the morning of May 8th 2016 and that he was hospitalized with the threat of never walking again. There’s actually footage online from a security camera showing him being hit out of the blue by the car and it’s extremely difficult to watch, specially when you realize how close he was from being completely taken out by the car. So Dances has had an extremely testing time the past 8 months whilst going through his recovery and rehabilitation to hopefully walk again.
A few weeks ago we got the good news that he was close to being able to stand and take steps for the first time, so when AC Slater called me last week and asked if I would be up for being the unannounced special guest for the Night Bass 3rd birthday party, I accepted and asked Dances if he was up for performing Operator live during the show.
This video means a lot to me for many reasons. 1. It's heart warming to see a guy, who everyone at this event knows, loves, and respects, gain his mobility back. 2. I’m very proud of this song and how it’s connecting with the dance community. 3. I love a good reaction.
Awesome words by an awesome dude talking about our awesome friend :) now let's segue to the next thing before we all start crying...
Before I went any further, I wanted to take a little rest to give a S/O to the reason why there's even a 3 year birfday party going on for the NIGHT BASS CREW... the fucking SHIPFAM/HOMIES/FANS/CREW. There's a lot of love out there for the kids that keep going and supporting, so this mini slideshow above is for you ;)
Next up were the UK buds... Jack Beats. Let me tell you this, I have had some amazing times partying with these two and I literally hugged them when I ran into them and just started filming as they did their tight ass thang. I cannot get enough of hanging with these fools and I'm so happy they were there to kick it with me. I mean to play for the crowd that paid to see them that night ;)
And another rad moment from AC's set was when these two Mexican dudes were just on the right drugs and the music was hitting at the perfect moment. I was proud to see the homies kill it to this level where people were this juiced to hear a song they made. So fucking tight.
ANDDDDD... Last but certainly not least, I wanted to give the bigggggg shoutout to Petey Clicks, the unsung hero of Night Bass. Resident DJ and the homie w/ the best smile and the biggest hugs... which is a nice segue into the slideshow below of the vibes and all the #CREWLOVE I feel whenever I see this group. Love y'all.
