#TBT A FOND FARE-WELL TO THE OG WELL SPOT

Sup fools, it's GLENJAMN aka the "Cultural Historian"  reminiscing about another tite time when I kicked it at The Well before there even was The Well LA.  Since I got a rad reception w/ my 1st #TBT post2nd #TBT post, my 3rd #TBT post and my LAST #TBT post...  I'm gonna go in again.  So, lemme go and share another rad moment with y'all via photos and/or videos (b/c God gave me two hands for two cameras)...  This post is a little special... it's about the last time I kicked it at the OG Well spot... so gather round the campfire...

Let's take it back to the OG Well LA spot near the Shrine on a warm and vibey night in April 30th, 2011...

KABLAMMOMOTHAFUCKAAA. Ever since the first #TBT post, I told you I was always gonna hit you with a video when I start my #TBT posts to help me get my inner nostalgic vibes right before I get all write (pun intended).

But yeah, damn, this night is a special one... I remember Jefferson giving me the heads up (like I have said in the past, Jefferson and maybe Steph were the only plugs I had for the Well parties back in the day)... but then they were like, "yo, we're moving outta the old OG spot and moving the show to DTLA (to the current location for The Well on Olive in DTLA) and we are gonna throw a rager before we roll out!" [paraphrased]...  So, being the plug that I also am... I linked up Jefferson w/ Alex Boys Noize (who was also in town at the time) and said that we were gonna make sure the last fiesta was gonna be an epic one... So, bam, here's a clip of Alex playing Julio Bashmore's Battle For Middle You and please excuse me a minute as I wallow in this moment of greatness from back in 2011.  What a fuckin track tho!  #VIBESVIBESVIBES

NEVER FORGET.

NEVER FORGET.

So, this post will sort of commemorate the end of an era...  The times when I would just get a call from Jefferson saying that we should do a party that night... and guess what, hours later, there would be a room packed with kids just wanting to party where the vibes were real and weren't dilluted with the EDM trash that was starting to take its hold on the LA dance scene.  We were kids that wanted real parties w/ no pretentious energy and no bottle service.  The parties always felt like warehouse mini raves b/c the spirit of it was such.  I really wanna say thanks to the homies at The Well b/c they definitely kept the torch alive for a while when we needed SOMEWHERE TO GO.

Since this post is more about the family than just the party, I dusted off a couple photos from that party where they put up that giant WELL LOGO thing they had just crafted up a couple weeks before and the vibes just spilled onto the floor.  I fuck w/ this gallery above b/c I still fucks w/ the people in the photos that have become more than just homies.  They became fam. So, here's a lil family album of the homies.  Including: Greg and Jamie Acid Girls, Franki Chan, Dashiell & DTall, Caesar Sebastian, Louisahhh!, Jamal, mu0p and more! FAM IS FAM.

Sometimes... when I write these blog posts, I get antsy when I see too many photos and think it's about time for a good video clip to paint a better scene of what went down that sweaty night... and since I've got the keys to the car RN, I'm gonna stick this clip of Jerome LOL (a legend we have already established) into the mix and share this vid of when parties were just like this.  Jerome was playing some new shit probably and some girl with a butt decided to jump on and showcase said butt.  I called the video "New Ass Challenger" when I uploaded the vid in 2011, and I think it's actually a quite appropriate title for what went down.  TBH, I usually write the titles of my video clips at the last second with whatever just pops into my brain.  In 2011, her butt definitely popped into my brain.

Then, more vibes from the IRL to URL to MEMESPHERE Jerome from 2011... When I say that, I mean to say that Jerome was so ahead of his time in 2011 and he was my go-to-guy when it came to new music that tiptoed the line between AOL IM sounds and new dance shit back then that I just needed to record more video of whenever he played.  I saw the magic in his demon eyes way back then and now I'm seeing the man that came out of the fire that was 2011 unscathed.  So, yeah this video is tight because the music and the homies are tight... there i said it.

Before I share some more shit, I'm gonna put this right here too b/c I wanted to give a shoutout to another photo brother that sorta helped me get on the scene taking photos and vids w/o being grilled too much for doing my own thang. And the guy that gets the shoutout is Mr. Mark the Cobrasnake Hunter.  When I started to wander solo in clubs because I just felt like it during early 2007, Mark would just encourage me to do my thing b/c we both just cared about the people that we were taking photos of more than just the photos. I think.  Anyways, I caught Mark in a photo to make up for this one below from him from 2009 ;)

Here's a photo Mark took of me way back when I was starting... wow a #TBT within a #TBT... GLENCEPTION

Anyways, sorry for taking that left at Memory Lane when I shoulda taken a right... I'm back on track and back to the Finale Fare-Well party that went down :))))  So what went down next... hmm, oh yeah, duh, Alex Boys Noize took over around like 1 or 2AM (ahhhhh the beauty of underground parties in 2011 in LA) and just did his fucking thing.  The German took over and played those fire jams we still play in 2017... As friends, we just assembled when Alex gave out the signal... and TBH, these little parties at the Well were sorta the reasons why Alex keeps coming back to LA.  He fell in love w/ the city b/c he felt like he was now a part of the city.  Ya dig?

We just wanted vibes.  We just wanted to dance.  So Alex provided his superstar vibes for just a couple kids that just wanted to turn up before we knew what the phrase "turnt up" meant.  Like I said, it was just a real party back then.  We don't have many real parties anymore.  We only have sponsored events.  But this was a slice of vintage hipster heaven from 2011.

Shit, dude, I mean, he hit us with that fresh BOYS NOIZE x MR. OIZO - HANDBRAEKES shit.  I mean CALLGURLS ARE DEAD.  I MEAN.  DUDE, TAKE ME BACKKKKKK...  That was the era... and it was the end of the OG WELL spot era... so with that, we just gotta live through these vids...

Fun times, with a little Jason Hong side cameo in this photo... classic 2011 LA party vibes lol

So yeah, I'm still holding onto the last bit of this post because I hate saying goodbye honestly... but guess what!  The parties continued for The Well LA... I mean they're still doing shit to this day in that new OLIVE location tho!  It's just sad to finally close the lid on the #TBTs about this special location b/c I had some of the best times of my life in that weird little room near U$C and the Shrine.   Anyways, the memories live on through me.  I am the vessel and I'm down.

One last toast to an amazing place and some amazing memories.  See ya soon in another episode of #TBT (but from a different location) [teardrop. droptop.].
