THE DAFT PUNK POP-UP SHOP WAS MORE THAN JUST A SHOP...

Sup fools, it's GLENJAMN aka the "Cultural Historian"  reminiscing about another tite time when I kicked it at The Well before there even was The Well LA.  Since I got a rad reception w/ my 1st #TBT post2nd #TBT post, my 3rd #TBT post and my LAST #TBT post...  I'm gonna go in again.  So, lemme go and share another rad moment with y'all via photos and/or videos (b/c God gave me two hands for two cameras)...  This post is a little special... it's about the last time I kicked it at the OG Well spot... so gather round the campfire...

Let's go back to the time when I went to the DAFT PUNK POP-UP SHOP at MAXFIELD LA on February 13th & February 23rd, 2017...

I mean, I just had to start this post b/c if you guys know me at all, I fully attribute Daft Punk as the sole inspiration for sparking my interest in filming the world of electronic music for the past 10 years.  If that ain't an intro to this post, then move along ass hole ;)

So yeah, I heard thru the internets that there was gonna be a Daft Pop-up shop during Grammy weekend with all the suits and helmets and artifacts from the mythical robot legends.  So, yeah I missed out on the rad "private opening" and sent out Kanye tweets of displeasure... but like all things, the saltiness passed, and I decided to roll down twice to the pop-up shop to just look at all the cool shit that they assembled together to make a Daft Museum that catered to all my French touch house fascinations.  So, yeah, that's why the vid above is literally my first 5 minutes of me stepping into basically my brain back in 2006 after seeing them play at Coachella. (PS: when i tried to pull up my old Coachella clips of Daft Punk, only one survived and that's the one I linked to...) Also, S/O to Riton and Michele Lorenza for being such great sports and rolling with me on a chilly Monday after the Grammys... So, yeah, I was definitely feeling it...

Then, you walk in and it's shit like this greeting you.  The fucking helmet from the Discovery era w/ sketches on the inspirations for the helmet and shit like that?  What the fuck you trying to do, kill me?  I saw a lot of tight shit, so I wanted to make a tiny slideshow of some photos I took of stuff while I wasn't fanning the fuck out...

I was just blown away to see such a perfectly curated mix of artifacts from the past that helped shape the Daft Punk mythology to what it has become today.  The old DaFunkFest flyer from the ALIVE 2007 Tokyo show, patches for your jacket from the tour, helmets that were broken apart to see the insides, Guy-Man's first LED helmet from the olllldddd Discovery days, a gold and silver skull I think from the Electroma years, and a fucking badass fabric poster of the DAFTENKIREKTOUR in Belgium from the 90s... FUCKKKKK this shit was just too tight to be around and I hadn't even gone around to looking for shit to buy yet hahah...

So, yeah, I'm sure you can see from the video at the top of how I felt when I saw everything, but dude, it had been a lifelong dream to get as close as I could to these fucking suits and these fucking helmets.  Man, they had the ones they wore when I was melting my brain at Coachella and the LA Sports Arena and Vegoose!  I meannnn these Hedi Slimane designed outfits from the ALIVE tour was what really caught my eye b/c my best memories were tied to this era.  Butttt... I am a fan of all the other getups and I made a tiny slideshow to showcase my childhood dreams come to life etc... so... FUCKKKKKKKKK

Aside from my favorite suits, I had to give a little shine to the recent Grammy suits the robots have worn with designer accents and fucking pure class.  If I could, I wear that shit. ALL DAY EVERY FUCKIN DAY.  No more brushing teeth folks.  It's over for me!

Now to get a little META w/ it...  Here's a slideshow of some of my favorite slides that were on display of a shit ton of behind the scenes shots of the robots getting ready, early photo shoots, just fucking amazing shit was there and here's a slideshow for the heads + a photo of my homie taking a photo of the slideshow as I shot the photo of him making this an even more meta slideshow.

So, this final slideshow is dedicated to the HUMAN-ROBOT interaction that just went down at the pop-up, like I said, I was more into the artifacts and the story of the robots more than all the stuff that was being sold... I mean I loved grabbing these photos of my homie Switttch + Riton and strangers and babies just enjoying it as much as I was.  Daft Punk's mythos still prospers til this day b/c everyone's shared experience and joy of respecting these robots is what makes it just so fucking amazing.  Hope you enjoyed this just as much as I did...

OK, fine, I'll end with the one thing I wanted to cop but hopefully the homie will hook it up ;)  I texted Virgil this photo and said that he killed it w/ his collabo b/c he used the name of Daft Punk before they were even Daft Punk.   That's wassup and it wins the award for best collaboration at the pop-up.

PEACE MANG.

PS: BONUS PHOTO THAT SWITTTCH TOOK OF ME AT THE SHOP THAT WAS PRETTY FUCKIN TITE ;)
